Today, April 29, 2026, the United States Supreme Court completed what scholars are already calling the most consequential rollback of civil rights in a century. In a 6-3 decision in Louisiana v. Callais, the Court's conservative supermajority gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 — the last meaningful legal shield protecting Black, Latino, Native American, and Asian American voters from racially discriminatory electoral maps.
